Namgauds
Rebecca Namgauds is a multidisciplinary artist based in London, originally from the North of England, with over 10 years of experience in choreography, performance, and visual art across both live and digital spaces. Drawing on her background in contemporary dance and Capoeira, she explores feminist and ecofeminist themes, often engaging directly with nature and the landscape. Her work centers on intimacy, authenticity, and the feminine, with movement as her primary medium, though she also incorporates film, photography, performance art, and sound to deepen her explorations.
Rebecca was a Time & Space commission artist at Sadler’s Wells for 2023/24 and is currently developing a new dance theatre piece. She is an invited choreographer for Anjali Dance Company and is collaborating with Paraorchestra and musician Liza Bec. She also lectures at The Place, London Contemporary Dance School, and the Laban MA programme.
Her independent works have been performed internationally, with premieres at major festivals. "Like Honey" was featured in the British Council Edinburgh Showcase 2019, and "Rodadoras", an outdoor performance in which three women perform floor work in half a tonne of soil, continues to tour since its premiere in 2018. Her solo "Exhibit F" premiered at Dance Umbrella 2019, and she has created works for The Place and Emergence. Notable collaborations include Hofesh Shechter Company and LIFT (London International Festival of Theatre) for the site-specific performance East Wall at The Tower of London, as well as Arbonauts for the performance Silt at Estuary 2021.
Namgauds works as a choreographer and movement director across artistic scenes and fields. Weather movement directing a campaign for luxury brand Hermes or assisting on choreography for British artist Georgina Starr's film "Quarantaine". She brings her unique approach to c rafting movement. Other film work includes Jade O’Belles “Birthright”, an exploration of black, queer femininity through Yoruba iconography and in 2019 she movement-directed "An Intermission", a film project for young adults experiencing homelessness in Stoke-on-Trent,
As a performer, Rebecca’s career spans theatre, music videos, and fashion. She was part of the original cast of Marianne Elliott's critically acclaimed "Angels in America" at The National Theatre, performing alongside Andrew Garfield, Nathan Lane, and Russell Tovey. She has worked long-term as a collaborator with choreographer Holly Blakey, performing in multiple video works and assisting on campaigns for Vivienne Westwood and Issey Miyake. Her dance credits include appearances in music videos for Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, and Mura Masa, and she has performed for brands like Gucci, Vogue, Adidas, and Lululemon.
